DIRECTOR
Music Videos | Commercials | Feature Films
Magyar’s debut as a director was the feature film, FLYING LESSONS, starring academy award nominee Hal Holbrook, Maggie Grace, Jonathan Tucker and Academy Award winner Christine Lahti. The film was premiered at the Opening night GALA at the 2012 SBIFF and then was sold to Millennium Films and Nu Image the following year for a theatrical release. Since then, Magyar has been increasingly attracted to working on the other side of the camera. Critics hailed Magyar as “Represent[ing] the return of genuine filmmaking, a type of movie-making that is unfazed by bureaucratic studio agendas and is fully invested in creating emotionally moving art.”
He became a fellow in the AFI Directors Program in 2015, and over the next two years, directed six short films. Most recently, he directed and produced two music videos: Walk With You - artist, Janelle Kroll, and All of Our Broken - artist, Josh Wald, for which he was also the cinematographer.
He also produced and directed the Reality pilot spec, “MANHANDLED,” which is currently being shopped to production companies and networks. It’s a unique and previously undeveloped “reverse Queer Eye”.
In 2018, he expanded his craft to branding, acting as Chief Content Curator for The 333, directing, shooting, and developing their marketable content. He continued down this path to work with corporate brands like Compass, where he is an approved vendor to direct and produce videos for the real estate company and their Brokers.
He has been described as an actor’s director and indeed likes to have a foot in both camps. He has two projects currently in development: Drop In The Ocean, written with his father, based on the true story of his grandfather’s heroic activities in Hungary, during WW2 and River Of Grass, a television pilot he is developing with the writer, Chad Christopher.
